-------------

The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement consists of hundreds of thousands of dedicated women, men, children and youth - all possessing diverse backgrounds, different experiences and extensive knowledge.

For a living and modern Movement, which constantly develops and adapts to meet the needs and challenges of today and the future, the issue of diversity, on all levels of the movement, needs to be taken seriously. This ranges from the necessity of our volunteers mirroring the population in each country to diversity in the Movement's governing and decision-making bodies.

Mr Chairman,
We have noted that the representation in decision-making bodies may not reflect the composition of our Movement nor our respective societies.

We need to look beyond geographical representation and ask ourselves, where are the young people and women of our Movement? Do we live up to our own commitments on diversity in the bodies represented here today?

The Standing Commission, given its role as the Supreme deliberative organ of the Movement, has an important role to play. Therefore, the Swedish Red Cross urges the Standing Commission to lead the Movement in this crucial and highly important issue.

Honoured colleagues,
Having had the leading role in humanitarian issues for more than 150 years, our Movement takes pride in being relevant and responsive.

The Swedish Red Cross has started its own process towards diversity and is committed to change. However, we can not do it alone.

The time has come for each and everyone of us to walk the talk.

To show the world that the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement will be a role model on diversity and take the lead like we have done so many times before.

Thank you.

Som resten av världens kostymmöten ofta ser ut så är det mycket män som har levt några år mer än jag här på plats i Nairobi.

Med mikrofon, storbildsskärm och 600 åhörare. Ja, det var riktigt häftigt!
